Chottanikkara Bhagavati Temple Festival ചോറ്റാനിക്കര ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം

India December 2024      The host at my bed and breakfast in Fort Cohi, told me about a temple festival that was taking place that week and, with  three other residents at the BnB we decide to take a taxi there. The street leading to the temple was busy with worshipers, shoppers, vendors and children.   My friends were captivated by a little day nursery in the street where the elephants were being housed.   Inside the temple, during the afternoon,  were dramatic reenactments of Hindu stories and scriptures. There were done in a really dramatic way with music and a singing story, bold moves and lots of audience participation  Inside the temple was a small central temple building with a place to light candles at the front, surrounded by a  square courtyard There were towers of little oil lamps on the corners and you could also light candles that  had tapers in the wall of  the central temple            ...

Street Art in Ushaia

Image
February 2025 have really loved all the street art in Argentina. Often people will commission a painting for their walls or garage doors painted, perhaps it prevents graffiti! However it was at another level in Ushuaia particularly making wonderful use of the steps and hills in the city. I found this on a post by Christine Kindburg The variety and quality of painted street art in Ushuaia is due to the organizational efforts of the International Meeting of Muralists at the End of the World (EMUSH), which has had five city-sponsored gatherings so far. These events draw artists from around the region, other parts of Argentina and other countries who submit proposals for the opportunity to beautify the city by turning blank walls and the sides of buildings into huge canvase s. https://christinekindberg.substack.com/p/ushuaias-street-art

Martial Glacier

February 2025 Today was the day.... There's a walk that starts not far from my Air BnB in Ushuaia.  It's a hike up to one of the glaciers above the city and as I am a steep 30 mins walk up the mountain from the town and the sea, I had a little advantage!!  I had heard it was a tough climb so I got a few practice hikes under my belt before attempting it. Turns out that was a good plan! It was the most beautiful hike; the path winds up though some woodland, taking a more direct path to the road which has steep hairpin bends as it winds up the mountain.  Beside the path a hawk of some kind had it's beady eye on me beside  the path. After I had intersected the road a few times, always heading upwards at hot too steep an incline, the path dipped down away from the road and met a babbling stream - honestly it was like something out Lord of the Rings or Eragon; green leafy canopy, bouncy mulchy earth beneath and a babbling stream . A fairy land where you picked your way ove...
