Crooked Forest and Jade Lagoon Szczchin, north Pomerania

  These possible theories for the malformation of the trees are displayed at the edge of the glade. There are also benches and beds where you can lie down to enjoy the trees. There was a young woman having a lounge crocheting - a woman after my own heart!!! The Jade lagoon is caused by the limestone rock I'm trying to work out the filter on my phone!!!

Oh well another adventure in Poland!!

 Euphrasia and I thought we would attend an open air celebration to mark the anniversary  of the death of saint Pope John Paul 2. It had been advertised in out local church and after the success of the 3 kings parade in January we were defiantly up for a repeat of the experience. We arrived at the main square and  after picking up our flags, an enormous painting of the former Pope was unfurled and we all held on to it, for dear life  sometimes when the wind got underneath it.  There were a few songs played on a tonoy system and then a sermon was broadcast, we could tell it was St Pope JP2 by his voice - it sounded like an late recording. Then they played another and another - for getting on for an hour, by this time we were getting cold (and board) but when the hour was up there as an Our Father  and a hail Mary and we thought the prayer time would get going but no the banner was gathered up and we were handed burning torches and we set off on a precession ...

Polish cake exists in a different dimension.

 Polish cake exists  in a different dimension. If I had one piece of advice for someone moving to Poland or a gift I would give them it would be a cake fork. This is a divine creation from Sowa; chocolate sponge, a layer of sharp fruit compote, light fluffy creamy mouse toped off with a very thin layer of almost set jelly with forest fruits ( possibly black currents) set into it. This one was perfectly complemented by a black coffee. coffee here is stronger and shorter that the UK and USA long coffees. The plan is to sip and enjoy the flavour rather than drink. You buy cake by the kilo here  so you can order a whole cake or just a slice. this is one of the  Cukiernia Sowas in Bydgoszcz this is one of my colleagues, one of  our three Alexs) at  Cukiernia Sowa in the old square. Mine is the cheeses cake! Even the doughnuts are amazing. There is a doughnut bakery in the subway on the way to work where they are cooked fresh and have amazing toppings - such...
